These are the people that Mitt Romney doesn’t care about.  He doesn’t understand what the “salt of the Earth” are nor does he care to find out.  He thinks these are the 47% who won’t vote for him, even though many of these people are the ones who will vote for him NO MATTER WHAT.

The thing is that he can’t understand what these people go through day and night.  He never experienced it.  He never experienced the fear of not being able to get out of debt or of not being able to put food on the table.  He never experienced having to work two or three jobs just to make ends meet.  He never experienced having to decide between medication or food.  He never experienced life without basic health care because he has almost always had some form of government insurance—first when his father was governor and then when he got that very job.  He will never in his life fear that the lights will be off in the morning because you didn’t have the money to pay the electric bill.  He will never in his life fear that the marshals are going to come and kick him out of his home because he couldn’t make the rent or pay the mortgage.

The sad thing is that his base—not the rich 1% that attended his $50,000 a plate dinner where he told half of the country to fuck off—is full of people that have experienced and will continue to experience these very things.  The only way to help them is the STOP HIM FROM TAKING OVER THE WHITE HOUSE.

We must think about the Salt of the Earth when we go to vote on November 6th—not the people who can afford to throw $50,000 away to have a meal with one of the biggest bigots going.

My mom and I were watching a documentary on Oscar Hammerstein III earlier tonight and when they got to South Pacific and started playing this song, I started thinking that this is something that people need to actually listen to—not just listen, hear it.  It seems more and more people are hating people they deem to be “others;” it doesn’t matter who the other is, whether they’re black, white, rich, poor, gay, straight, Christian, Muslim, just because they are different people seem to think that it is okay to hate them.  No one ever really thinks about where this hatred comes from, when it started.  I know that in this country, racism against black people was started by the fledgling colonial government, which made the African slaves scapegoats, turning the indentured servants against them because they told them that the slaves wanted the land that had been guaranteed to them.  The original slaves in this country came from all races and creeds, but the government somehow decided that the Africans were inferior just because they had darker skin.  In truth, nobody is better than anybody else.  This type of thinking has been passed down from generation to generation and unless we put a stop on it, it will continue until the last people stand on the Earth when the ground has gone dry and the sun has burnt out.  Maybe if people taught LOVE they way they have taught HATE, we can one day all live peacefully, but it WON’T BE EASY.  Changing hearts and minds isn’t easy, and it shouldn’t be.
